CHAPTER PRESIDENT MESSAGE

Omicron Psi Omega Chapter - General Session - Brandi Myers Photography-29.jpg

On June 8, 1985, the vision to serve the Davidson County community was written by fifteen service-driven women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc®.  Fast forward to now, the women of the Omicron Psi Omega Chapter are still committed to upholding that very same vision of our beloved Charter Members!

I share my vision with my sisters to aspire, to espouse the vision of Ethel Hedgemon Lyle of "creating a network of women with like minds who would come together for mutual uplift, and coalescence of their talents and strengths for the benefit of others", with the vision of our International President Danette Anthony Reed, as we look to “Soar to Greater Heights in Our Sisterhood”. Standing on the proverb, “charity begins at home”, we know as strong, educated and service-driven women, we must first believe that we are a community.  We are a family, and we are sisters who purposefully promote peace and harmony among each other.  For we know only then, can we promote peace and harmony among others – particularly the Davidson County Community.

As we proudly serve Alpha Kappa Alpha, I share my vision with my sisters to “Soar to Greater Heights of Service”, as we continue to (as envisioned by our International President), “build upon this sorority’s rich legacy of service, leading on the front lines of change, education, and advocacy”.  Our desire to strengthen our community is insatiable, as we seek to better collaborate and establish partnerships with other agents of change.  Our greatest reward is in giving, and we aim to serve with executing rewarding community programs that “Empower Our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth, Enhance Our Environment, and Advocate for Social Justice and Uplift Our Local Community”.

Our 2022 - 2026 foundational initiative of Strengthening our Sisterhood is where it begins for Omicron Psi Omega.  Why?  We rest in knowing that "God has combined the members of this body, and He has given greater honor to the parts that lacked [honor]. So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.   If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it (1 Corinthians 12:24-26)”.  With embracing that truth, there is nothing left for Omicron Psi Omega but retention and growth.  When a community consistently sees, not only a strong force of service-driven women, but a group vitally unified, we can then accomplish the vision of “SOARING TO GREATER HEIGHTS OF SERVICE AND SISTERHOOD” and be of “Service to All Mankind”.
